Why is Guantanamo Bay prison controversial?

Before his term ends on January 20, Barack Obama is rushing to leave as few detainees as possible at the Guantanamo Bay prison.

Since it opened 15 years ago, Guantanamo has been a focus of criticism for detaining hundreds of prisoners without charge and subjecting them to torture.
